- Explore the villages and countryside
- The Northumberland National Park offers miles of unspoilt hill walking - check this site too.
- Walking is a favourite pastime for vistors, so check out Shepherds Walks the award winning resource for walks throughout Northumberland, Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
- Before you set out across the hills, check out the weather but be aware that the conditions on the hills are frequently different to those on the coast.
- Figuring large in local tourist attractions is Alnwick Castle - home to Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone - the castle is full of treasures.
- Alnwick is now the site of one of the most exciting garden centres in Europe - Alnwick Gardens. The fabulous new tree house development has recently been opened to the public
- Alnwick Council maintains a good infomation site as does Alnwick Online.
- For a slightly more 'unusual' view of the town go to Alnwick on Lion or the Alnwick Horror !
- Like browsing books ? Barter Books in the town is a must. One of the largest secondhand bookshops in Europe and situated in the old Alnwick Railway station.
- Alnwick International Music Festival is a week-long celebration of traditional music and dance
- The Playhouse in Alnwick puts on local productions, exhibitions and films on general release.
- Historic Bamburgh Castle is an hour away.
- The magical island of Lindisfarne is a short drive.
But watch out for the crossing times on the causeway.
- Keilder Water to the South has a wonderful collection of activities - sailing. horse riding and lakeside walks and the Keilder Water map trail .
- The Farne Islands are a great day out for the whole family - sea birds, seals and whales - an easy boat trip from Seahouses
- To the south is the famous Hadrian's Wall which divides the country from the east coast to the west.

- But if you want to meet the Scots - they can be found in that glorious city of Edinburgh - an hour or so to the north.
- On your way you can view the frontier town of Berwick the only English town to have a football team that plays in the Scottish league.
